Frank van Leersum, student aan de Academie van Bouwkunst, heeft een mini strandhotel ontworpen op basis van het geluid van de branding. De geluidsfrequentie bepaalt de vorm van het dak.

Plastic Reef

Plastic Reef is an artproject by Maarten Vanden Eynde: "In March 2008 I found out that there was a “floating landfill”, about the size of continental US and made up of plastic particles, swirling about 1,000 miles west of California and 1,000 miles north of the Hawaiian Islands. Almost nobody knew about it at that time so I wanted to raise awareness for this incredible phenomenon and find out what could be done with this new ‘raw’ material."
More: plasticreef.com is a website containing information about the growing sculpture of artist Maarten Vanden Eynde, but also gives a brief summary of the history of plastic and offers a platform for various organisations and institutes working with plastic (production, collection, recycling and research) aiming to find solutions for emerging plastic problems.

The Forgotten Space, een film van Allan Sekula en Noël Burch heeft tijdens het 67. Internationale Filmfestival Venetië de Special Orizzonti Jury Prize gewonnen in de categorie lange films.
De film is gemaakt op initiatief en met financiële ondersteuning van SKOR. De productie was in handen van Doc.Eye Film Amsterdam.
The Forgotten Space is een poging de hedendaagse maritieme wereld in relatie met de financiële crisis te begrijpen. De film volgt het container transport aan boord van schepen, treinen en vrachtwagens en laat arbeiders, ingenieurs, en politici aan het woord. ‘De zee’, is volgens de filmmakers, ‘de cruciale ruimte van de globalisering. Nergens anders wordt de verwarring, het geweld en de vervreemding meer zichtbaar dan daar.’ De film is een mix van persoonlijke politieke analyse, documentaire experiment met een sterke visuele vormgeving.
Het juryrapport: An epic view and urgent analysis of the follies of global capitalism, The Forgotten Space is a prime example of essayistic and political cinema. It creates a complex tapestry of powerful images and language.

Sea Organ - musical instrument played by the sea
Thanks to the Sea Organ music project, the inhabitants of Zadar have been restored once more to their relation with the sea. Chaotic reconstruction work undertaken in an attempt to repair the devastation Zadar suffered in the World War II turned much of the sea front into an unbroken, monotonous concrete wall. Now, the inviting white marble steps lead down to the water. Concealed under these steps, which both protect and invite, is a system of polyethylene tubes and a resonating cavity that turns the site into a huge musical instrument, played by the wind and the sea.
