Terwijl burgers, beleidsmakers, politici en projectontwikkelaars wakker liggen van de plannen voor Scheveningen start Satellietgroep een nieuw programma voor de artist in residency Badgast op surfdorp F.A.S.T..
Maak gebruik van deze unieke gelegenheid zolang het duurt!
Laat zien wat het betekent om als 'local' - prof of amateur - aan zee te wonen en werken, fotograferen, schilderen, schrijven, filmen, musiceren....!
JE KAN JE NU AANMELDEN:
Mail zo spoedig mogelijk je voorstel naar satellietgroep@gmail.com en maak kans op een werkverblijf van maximaal 2 weken in Badgast aan zee op het scharnierpunt van boulevard en haven in Scheveningen.
Stuur zsm 1 A4 informatie over wie je bent, wat je doet en wat je wil doen als je in Badgast zou werken. Het inschrijfgeld is naar draagkracht en bedraagt minimaal € 50,- per week, als je een Ooievaarspas hebt is het gratis. We maken zsm de selectie bekend, zorg dat je erbij bent!
Het programma 'Locals Only' veronderstelt dat je hard moet werken om je aan zee een 'local' te mogen noemen. Internationale, nationale en lokale kunstenaars, filmmakers, schrijvers, stedenbouwkundigen, architecten en geluidscomponisten waren de afgelopen 5 jaar te gast als artist in resident van Badgast. Bewoners t/m kustexperts hebben genereus meegewerkt aan de meer dan 30 projecten. Zonder die bijdragen hadden veel projecten niet tot stand kunnen komen. Vissers, hengelaars, surfers, bunkergravers en wetenschappers hebben gasten van Badgast meegevoerd tijdens expedities thuis, in het havengebied, 's nachts in strandpaviljoens, op de pier en in zee om hun kennis, verhalen en fotoboeken te delen.
Satellietgroep stelt iedereen die een bijzondere relatie met de zee en kust heeft in de gelegenheid om als gast van Badgast daar werk van te maken. Laat zien welke kennis en kunde leeft onder de 'locals'.
Omdat Den Haag - stad aan zee - een internationale aantrekkingskracht heeft op studenten, migranten en expats volgt hieronder de uitnodiging in het Engels.

Mail as soon as possible your workproposal to satellietgroep@gmail.com for selection of a working period of max 2 weeks at Badgast, located at the pivot point of promenade and harbor in Scheveningen.
Send asap one A4 information about who you are, what you do and what you want to do if you could work at Badgast. The entry fee will be based on your financial capacity with a minimum of € 50 - per week, if you have a Ooievaarspas it is free. We make the selection asap, make sure your application is there!
The program 'Locals Only' implies that to be(come) a 'local' at the seaside, you have to work really hard. For 5 years international, national and local artists, filmmakers, writers, urban planners, architects and soundcomposers were the guests as artist in residence of Badgast. Residents and coastal experts have generously contributed to more than 30 projects. Without their help many projects could not have been realized. Fishermen, anglers, surfers, bunker diggers and scientists have guided guests of Badgast during expeditions at home, in the port area, overnight sleeping in beachpavilions, on the pier and into the sea and shared their knowledge, stories and photo albums.
Satellietgroep invites everyone who has a special relationship with the sea and coast to use this opportunity to be the guest of Badgast for a workingperiod. Show what knowledge and skills are alive among the locals!

TWENTY EIGHT LIGHTS BY 'LOCALS ONLY#1' MATTIA PAPP
March 2014
First year student Fine Arts at Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague is Mattia Papp. He was for 1 week artist in residence of ‘Badgast’ by Satellietgroep as part of the program ‘Locals Only’.
He presented his work 'Twenty Eight Lights' during the North Sea Conference, March 13. Guests were invited to rearrange the canvasses. The new arrangement is photographed. The photo is send by email to the participant.
Mattia: "Hi, my name is Mattia Papp, I’m a painter.
I was born in Florence twenty years ago, raised up there, surrounded by renaissance masters, classical beauty and an astonishing yellow light. I spent my summers at Elba’s island, in Tuscany, blue sea, warm climate and more yellow light. Two years ago it was enough, I wasn’t able to handle it anymore, I had to move.
I came here in Holland to study art at the KABK in Den Haag, searching for a new mood. Something more rational, colder and more contemporary. Searching for the same love that moved Vermeer. I needed these new things. I needed the white light of Netherlands, a light that tells the truth, colors as they are without any filters. Nor the warm filter from Mediterranean sea, neither the blue grey one from Germany and England.
My project at 'Badgast' was about this Dutch light, the wind and the black and grey Nordic sea.
I made four canvasses per day for one week. One at 9 o’ clock in the morning, one at 12:00, one at 15:00 and one at 17:00. These are the hours of the day where the light changes in the most significant way. Also by following a diet of fish, I’ve been able to totally immerge myself in the Nordic sea atmosphere. I worked on this project with discipline and strict attitude.
The result consists of twenty-eight canvases (30X30cm), assembled as one piece, not organized and not following the order of production of the single pieces. It represents one unique sea landscape (120 cm X 240 cm): the Scheveningen sea shore. Each of the canvases is independent, as independent is this white light, immortal, the symbol of a mayor inspiration that I’m desperately looking for.
In fact the viewer is able to switch the canvases of the opera as he or she wants, as he or she feels like. Free from any logic and free from any human time parameter.
I just wanted to capture the light and not the scenery in this work.

Werkvoorstel Locals Only @ Badgast:
Gedurende het korte verblijf als ‘badgast’ richt ik me op de veelzijdigheid aan betekenissen en functies die een individu de zee kan toebedelen;
Een plaats om warme dagen te vieren met familie of vrienden.
Een plaats waarin een ondernemer geen ontembaar beest ziet maar potentiële groene energie.
Een plaats voor stiekeme seks in de duinen.
Een plaats om uit te waaien en huilen na een gestrande relatie.
Een bestemming voor mensen die de drukte van de steden ontvluchten.
Een obstakel voor mensen die hun land willen ontvluchten.
Een plaats voor sporters om het op te nemen tegen de elementen.
Een plaats om andere plaatsen even te vergeten.
Het is een kleine greep uit de mogelijkheden die de zee biedt of de mens creëert.
Het lijkt vooralsnog een plaats waar actie en contemplatie elkaar in de hand werken in plaats van uitsluiten. Deze thema’s (actie en contemplatie) staan centraal met fysieke inspanningen zoals schilderen, fotograferen, wandelen en kitesurfen afgewisseld met het voeren van gesprekken met ‘locals’ en me terugtrekken in de werkcontainer om te schrijven.

Werkvoorstel Locals Only @ Badgast:
Filmmaker Marieke Helmus brengt samen met cameraman Maurice Spees en drie Butohdansers de oude beroemde, maar toch vergeten Amelander waddenlegende Rixt van ’t Oerd, tot leven in de film Oerdewieven (Mud Flat).
Een deel van de film is op het ruige waddengebied ’t Oerd (Ameland) gedraaid. Met van oorsprong Japanse Butohdans wordt getoond hoe de oude vrouw Rixt, nadat ze verbannen is uit het dorp, in isolement heeft kunnen overleven door op te gaan in de natuurlijke stroom van de wadden: eb en vloed, koude en wind, licht en donker. Rixt heeft een extra troef: ze kan duistere krachten inzetten om de natuur naar haar hand te zetten.
Tijdens de badgast residentie wordt het tweede perspectief van de film ontwikkeld: het verhaal van de zeemannen, wiens schip tijdens een plotse donkere storm door Rixt haar misleidende licht de zandbanken op gedreven wordt. Alle bemanningsleden komen om. Dit perspectief wordt verteld aan de hand van abstracte stop motion beelden en geluids- en hoorspelfrafmenten. Het kantelpunt in de film bestaat uit het moment dat Rixt ontdekt dat met het vergane schip ook haar zoon Sjoerd is omgekomen. Als Rixt zijn dood ontdekt, schreeuwt ze: “Sjoerd! Oh Sjoerd”. Men zegt dat als je goed luistert, je haar rouwende stem nog altijd boven de wind uit kan horen.
Inspiratiebronnen: Rixt van ’t Oerd, Butohdans, de zeventiende-eeuwse imaginaire scheepsjournalen/robinsonades, zoals Selkirk, Robinson Crusoe en de Walcherse Robinson.
