Most interesting remark by Turkish artists who visited our beach at Tuyap: ‘Sitting on beachchairs with our feet in the sand watching the documentary on the Dutch 17th century painters (‘Dutch Light’) seems ironic.” But it isn’t. The shore is not only a place of superficial pleasures, it is also a public, social and cultural urban hotspot.

CONCERNING THE SEA: COMBINE, COMPARE OR CONFLICT?
For CCC @ ART PIE Istanbul 2010 Satellietgroep screened 14 videoworks - both conceptual and documentary - that reflect on the conceptual, social and urban impact of the sea and waterways in both Turkey and The Netherlands. In exhange we screened the collected material in the Cinema at Sea @ BADGAST in the Netherlands in 2011.

Coastal research for future collaboration projects. A group of nine architects and urbanists from The Hague (NL) and Julie Upmeyer, artist and organizer of Caranvanserai Istanbul, joined this program of Satellietgroep.
