CONCERNING THE SEA: COMBINE, COMPARE OR CONFLICT?
For CCC @ ART PIE Istanbul 2010 Satellietgroep screened 14 videoworks - both conceptual and documentary - that reflect on the conceptual, social and urban impact of the sea and waterways in both Turkey and The Netherlands. In exhange we screened the collected material in the Cinema at Sea @ BADGAST in the Netherlands in 2011.

6:
BLUE ENERGY
Dutch researchers are testing a promising method to produce energy from mixing fresh and salt water. If they succeed, they could be sitting on a gold mine. Because of the wide availability of places where rivers discharge into oceans, the researchers believe the technology could eventually produce 20-40% of the total energy supply.

7:
DUTCH LIGHT
Maarten en Pieter-Rim de Kroon, 2004 NL
Documentary on the ancient myth that the light in Holland is unique. It has been discovered as celebrated in art ever since the 17th century, but is it a myth or does it really exist? Joseph Beuys suggested that Dutch light lost its extraordinary radiance after the reclamation of large parts of the Zuyder Zee in the mid- 1950’s.

9:
DRUM KIT
Zeger Reyers, 2004 NL
Hundred empty oil drums are coupled and placed them in the sea. The tangle of oil drums thus became an instrument played on by the sea, producing muffled, banging sounds. At the same time it showed the enormous power of the sea: after seven weeks the drums had been dented and rusted almost beyond recognition.

SHORE SCENE SOUNDTRACK

BU SAHILDE
Merve Kayan & Zeynep Dadak 2009 TR
ON THE COAST imagines the summer as winter’s frivolous twin sister. Images of the everyday in this small seaside town, and the experimental sound editing that imbues them with a bizarre sense of the surreal, lend this film the form of an ‘essay’ that bears the buoyancy of summer, where vitality and boredom coexist.

This fair is part of the program of Istanbul 2010 Cultural Capital of Europe. From the Netherlands 19 artists initatives participated. With special thanks to Teike Asselbergs who organized the Art Pie, all participants, the City of The Hague, Stroom and Mondriaan Foundation.

We brought Mini Badgast by Refunc, a model of our residency on the Dutch coast.
At Tuyap we composed a stretch of beach with sand and beachchairs and here we screened the program. We participated with a lecture at KOC University and we organized a ‘Meet and Exchange’ at our stand at the Art Pie on November 3, with special guests Ms. Ceren Erten of  the Netherlands Consulate General in Istanbul, artists James Geurts (AU) and Cevdet Erek (TR) and  filmmaker Maarten de Kroon (NL). On November 6 we organized a special citytour with urbanist Orhan Esen (TR) 'Istanbul + the sea. The particular way waterways helped to shape the urbanity in Istanbul' as a coastal research for future collaboration projects. Nine Dutch architects and urbanists joined our program. In addition we will screen the collected videoworks in the Cinema at Sea @ BADGAST in the Netherlands in 2011. We expect to elaborate on this research on the conceptual, social and urban impact of the sea and waterways.
