BADGAST - ARTIST IN RESIDENCE AT SEA - CINEMA AT SEA - TALKS AT SEA
2012: 'NOW WAKES THE SEA' PART 1: NLTR400
Artist run initiative Satellietgroep is based since 2006 in The Hague, The Netherlands, a country with a strong historic art and innovative relationship with the sea. Satellietgroep has an embedded art and culture approach to researching the way the sea and waterways influences cities and people. We aim to research the pressure on public, social and cultural use on the waterfronts and develop new concepts and strategies focused on a new approach of future sea and coastal urban areas. Satellietgroep programs Badgast, a research based artist in residency at the coast of The Hague/Scheveningen where we invite artistst and scientists to develop and present research that articulates a cultural, innovative and sustainable significance of the sea and its coasts. In addition to the artist in residency program Satellietgroep programs the open air Cinema at Sea @ Badgast and Talks @ Badgast. In close collaboration with international artists, scienists, curators and guestcurators Satellietgroep develops a contemporary Seacollection On Coastal Transitions, with exchange projects in The Netherlands as well as abroad.
Previous exchange project CCC @ stanbul 2010 and IST2010-SCH2011. Starting 2009 Satellietgroep researched the influence of the sea and waterways in both The Netherlands and in Istanbul. For CCC @ Istanbul 2010 Satellietgroep screened 14 videoworks - both conceptual and documentary - that reflect on the conceptual, social and urban impact of the sea and waterways in both Turkey and The Netherlands. In exhange we screened the collected material in the Cinema at Sea @ BADGAST in the Netherlands in 2011.

TR: EUROPEAN CULTURAL ASSOCIATION / SINOPALE, INTERNATIONAL SINOP BIENNIAL
European Cultural Association (Avrupa Kültür Derneği) is an independent non-profit NGO based in Istanbul aiming at strengthening cultural communication, cooperation and exchange at local national and international levels for raising cultural awareness and development of the society.
European Cultural Association has been established in March 2003 by individual members of diverse professions who give great importance to the roles of culture within the society.
Sinopale, International Sinop Biennial is the title of an international project that, in the context of local development, draws the civil society together with the purpose of building dialogue through culture and arts, within the framework of the “artistic production based on sharing” model.  This project is realised biennially and aims at working at urban, national and international levels in order to make citizens of all ages perceive anew their own living spaces with a vision for the future, reflect on urban problems, share the historical collective memory and organise it by means of artistic production, and to create a better social living space.
Projects include ‘Collecting The Future, Arts and Culture As A Catalyser For Urban Development’.
The city of Sinop lies on the most northern point of the Black Sea coast of Turkey. For thousands of years this city has been a strategic point in the cultural and trade systems of the Black Sea Region. The port of Sinop has been a host to many civilizations, including Bronze Age, Greek, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman. Although the city was an important centre for shipbuilding during the Ottoman period, it lost its function during the transformation of the empire .In 1887 the historical dockyards were converted into a prison complex. As a result, the shipbuilding and commercial centre of the past became a prison town and was left to poverty. The geographical position of Sinop, on a foreland with only a single entry point, also contributed to the isolation of the city. In the cold war period Sinop became the “big ear” of the western alliance and was used as a NATO base to control the USSR.

The artistic research of Ronald Boer concentrates on highlighting the anomalies created through man’s intervention in the landscape. He puts the emphasis in showing his work in a constant state of change and transformation. Therefore his work allows to engage with it's surrounding and enables to respond to it as well as being part of it. Setting up certain conditions, like an artistic laboratory, the work naturally evolves through activation of a particular process. Being amazed by the unexpected phenomena the work reveals it self. Not knowing how, the work can truly exist and give new perspectives.
As an ongoing project Ronald is part of an artist duo Sodium//Chloride together with Valerie Dempsey, together they form an artistic research platform that draws in fine art, landscape architecture and science. Coming time they'll invest in their new project, the mobile beach laboratory, so more research and development of their work will be incorporated in the landscape.
