Program during Climate as Artifact:
SATURDAY NOVEMBER 3
NATURE & THE ARCHITECT

EXCARVATING THE SQUARE MOUNTAIN
Start: 15:00

Join artists Sachi Miyachi, Thijs Ebbe Fokkens and Maurice Bogaert. As three subjective tour guides they will each share the way they navigate and contemplate the space of Electriciteitsfabriek.
British philosopher Timothy Morton calls climate a 'hyperobject', too large to relate to. Zooming in or out on the landscape and climate of Electriciteitsfabriek, each artist narrates an ideal perspective of unexpected discoveries.

FINISSAGE NOVEMBER 18
SPECIAL: SHARE YOUR ESTIMATED GUESS!
THE SQUARE MOUNTAIN

During 5 weeks, artist Sachi Miyachi counted the bricks of the Electriciteitsfabriek.
Can you guess how many bricks she counted?

Japanese artist Sachi Miyachi is captured by the thought, that the physical state of any object metamorphoses over time. Miyachi: “In the Electriciteitsfabriek you see objects like a coffee cup, brick, steel pillar and concret floor block; all can be traced to the same origin. Human life is not an exception. Equally we are all metamorphosed star dust, temporarily magnetically grounded on the earth.” From this view, she aims to blur boundaries between existing categories and disciplines to create new perspectives.

Her performative work ____________ (working title) is developed during Climate as Artifact. Miyachi is artist-in-residence with Satellietgroep and works almost all days at the Electriciteitsfabriek.

With this project, Miyachi aims to explore the Electriciteitsfabriek on a conceptual level by engaging with the physical structure of the building. Although the building is known for its industrial features, the raw materials that were used in building the Electriciteitsfabriek are essentially all derived from nature. By counting the tiles and washing the windows, Miyachi hopes to gain a deeper connection with the Electriciteitsfabriek, one that goes beyond the traditional contradictions of nature and culture.

During her previous artist-in-residency with Satellietgroep at Badgast (Scheveningen, 2013), Miyachi and Nishiko developed together the installation Current washes ashore (2013).
