Project at Badgast: stop motion animation & live performance 'Bright Lights Big Sea'

Een bijzondere avond over lichtvervuiling aan zee met een stop motion animatie in de openlucht Cinema en een live performance. Het project schetst een gewone dag in Scheveningen. De focus ligt op de interactie van 1 persoon met de grote lege ruimten van zee en strand. In het lokale nachtlandschap, uitgelicht door neonreclames, billboards en parkeerverlichting, creëerden Fixon en O’Garra een visuele weergave van lichtvervuiling aan zee. Bij de presentatie in de schemering vond een interactie van fotografie (projectie) en podiumkunsten (live performance) plaats.

Through stop motion animation, a technique based on making film sequences from photo stills, combined with live performance this project outlines an ordinary day at Scheveningen. The focus is put on large empty spaces of sea and beach, with only one person in interaction with the local scenery. They show these large areas at night, lit up by neon lights, billboards or parking lights, creating a visual representation of light pollution on the coastline. The final presentation was a fusion of photography and performing arts. At dusk the film was projected in interaction with a live performance.
